Stonewall scholarships are ensuring opportunity for a growing number of young people (and some not so young!) in our community. Each fund is unique and reflects the values of its donors.

The Harry Bartel Memorial Scholarship Fund

An endowed fund in memory of Harry Bartel. Harry was born in Queens, NY and raised in Scottsdale, AZ. In 1991, Harry and his spouse, Brian Landeche, opened Splash Bar in Manhattan.

Throughout his life, Harry was an advocate of education and concerned that young gay men who were separated from their families or experiencing other hurdles might not have access to secondary education. It is in his memory that his family, friends and the patrons of Splash Bar have provided this endowment.

Who is eligible?

Gay male students who are 23 years or younger with a record of community service.

The Bee Winkler Weinstein Fund

“Bee’s Fund” was created in honor of Bee Winkler Weinstein by her daughter, Dava Weinstein, and Dava's partner, Dorothy Calvani, the Funds lead donors. While not a traditional "scholarship," the Fund benefits young women whose own families have withdrawn emotional and/or financial support because of their sexual and/or gender identity by providing grants covering vocational/technical training, licensing fees, college application fees and the like.

Grants are to support young women in taking steps to become self-sufficient in their own lives. Examples include:

Application fees
Books and supplies
Licensing fees
Job readiness training
Expenses for legal name change

In general, the fund does not cover the cost of tuition.

Who is eligible?

Lesbian, Female Bisexual and Transgender individuals (Male to Female)
Recipients must be between the ages of 18-25 and reside within the United States
