We are Stonewall.

We are a foundation by and for the LGBTQ community. We raise money and fund work that makes a difference on the issues that matter in our lives, from education and violence to family acceptance and health. With a focus on equity, we are one of the top funders on LGBTQ housing and homelessness, and nearly a third of all our grants benefit programs serving youth. Though we have no formal affiliation with the Stonewall Inn, we bear part of its historic name to honor the 1969 uprising that started there, and the spirit of freedom, resilience, and resolve that abides today.

Stonewall Stories

Uplifting undocumented LGBTQ+ college students

Since 2014, Stonewall has housed the country’s largest scholarship for undocumented LGBTQ students. In his own words, Jose, a recent Little Bird Scholarship recipient, tells us how the support changed his life.

Providing safe harbor for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers

With support from Stonewall Community Foundation, grantee partner New Alternatives is providing dignity and safe harbor for an influx of LGBTQ+ asylum seekers here in NYC. We’re proud to support their work.

Building pathways to independence for trans youth

STEM is one of the fastest growing sectors in today’s economy, but trans and gender-nonconforming youth face roadblocks that often prevent access to this sector. Stonewall is working to break through those barriers.
