Fund Partner Program

Stonewall has relationships with a few dozen fund partners, who have trusted us to manage donor-advised funds and designated funds on their behalf.  (For more information about how you can open your own fund at Stonewall, click here).   In 2020, our fund partners truly rose to the challenge of the moment, and we saw a payout rate many times the national average.  Our fund partners rose to the occasion to support Stonewall’s own emergency giving and designated funds, providing over $79,000 in targeted recommendations.  More than $864,000 in grants were made to organizations around the nation.

One of the values that Stonewall offers to members of its fund partner program is philanthropic advising.   Just over 50% of our partners come to us with questions about issues or organizations they’d like to support.  Stonewall staff is well versed in our community and its needs and helps to ensure that philanthropic dollars are supporting our values and work at the intersection of queer liberation, racial justice, and economic equity.  Nearly 40% of grants made through donor-advised funds at Stonewall are done with significant input from our staff and advisory teams, with another 15% receiving a moderate amount of support and advice.  We pride ourselves in knowing not just the New York City landscape, but having a strong grasp on LGBTQ funding issues across the country.

Just about 50% of those organizations were based in New York City, but more than 10% went to organizations on the West Coast, another 10% in the South, and 13% to organizations in the mid-Atlantic region, with other grants being made to New England, the Midwest, and the Rocky Mountain regions.

Our fund partners are invested LGBTQ+ organizations across the nation, and we are too.
