Your impact in 2022
Over the past year, time and time again, our Fund partners have stepped up to meet the critical and pressing needs of our community. From banding together to provide emergency shelter for LGBTQ asylum seekers to leaving behind a game-changing bequest, our Fund Partners truly embody the spirit and resolve of Stonewall’s mission. Here are a few Fund Partner highlights from 2022:
Providing safe harbor for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers
In the summer of 2022, Governors Greg Abbott of Texas and Ron DeSantis of Florida began inhumanely – and illegally – shipping asylum seekers from the southern border up to places like Washington DC, Martha’s Vineyard, and right here in New York City. Faced with a sudden influx of LGBTQ asylum seekers needing shelter and support, Stonewall’s grantee partner New Alts was faced with an urgent need for additional resources to house and feed these individuals. Thanks to the quick action and generosity of many of our Fund Partners, New Alts has the funding it needs to support these new neighbors well into 2023. Read the full story here.
Turning loss into legacy and action
When Mark Lane Brandt passed away in early 2021, he left a game-changing $2 million bequest to Stonewall Community Foundation. Working with the executor of Mark’s estate (and his best friend), Stonewall mapped out a strategy that would enable us to honor his legacy by making a profound impact on LGBTQ+ lives. Together, we devised an innovative 10-year plan that will sustainably increase our programmatic output while shoring up Stonewall as a vital resource provider in the LGBTQ nonprofit ecosystem. Partnering to end the HIV pandemic
Our Fund Partners aren’t all individuals - in some cases, companies engage us to help further their philanthropic efforts. Our partnership with Amida Care, a local nonprofit health insurance provider, is a wonderful example of this. Over the last few years, the world has been dealing and living with new and reemerging pandemics. Stonewall, in partnership with Amida Care, is also fighting the decades-old pandemic that has cost more than 40 million lives since it surfaced: HIV. Click through to read about our partnership with Amida Care, and how we’re working together to make sure vital HIV programs and care services are getting the resources they need to thrive. Overall, our Fund Partners helped make 2022 one of Stonewall’s most impactful years ever, channeling more funding into the community than in any other year in our history. We thank you for leading by example and moving resources from your funds to the groups that need them. Our community is stronger because of you. Check out our 2022 impact report here.
