Grantee Spotlight: Black & Pink

Black & Pink has long been recognized for their work at the intersection of LGBTQ justice and prison abolition. After the success of Lydon House, their first home for formerly incarcerated people, Executive Director Dominique Morgan has turned her focus to queer and trans youth and young adults involved in the criminal justice system. “If we’re only interacting with people as adults, we’re reaching them too late,” she said recently. Black & Pink is in the midst of a capital campaign to raise funds for the Opportunity Campus, a community space in Omaha, Nebraska. This initiative will provide housing, mental health support, daily drop-in services (such as hot meals, showers, and laundry), and community programming to system-impacted LGBTQ youth and young adults.

When a fund partner reached out to us wanting to support Black trans-led organizations, we recommended a grant to support Black & Pink’s capital campaign. Dominique described her vision for the Opportunity Campus as “Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.” We are honored to help make this vision a reality.
