Announcing Three New Stonewall Scholarships

Steve Houck (right) established the Fred Ohm Dream Builder Scholarship to honor the legacy of his late partner, Fred Ohm (left). This scholarship will support LGBTQ+ immigrant students in New York City.

For over 20 years, Stonewall has been proud to offer scholarships to LGBTQ+ students in New York and across the country. Working alongside our generous community of supporters, we invested $45,000 in the education of college and university students in 2025. This year, we’re thrilled to expand our scholarship offerings by 150% with the launch of three new opportunities. Together, we’re reaching more queer and trans students than ever before.

Read on to learn about our three new scholarship programs starting in 2026:

The Diane Hawley and Carol Przybycien Scholarship

Established by the fund’s namesakes, Diane Hawley and Carol Przybycien, this new scholarship will award an annual total of $20,000 to lesbian-identifying students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies within the United States. The Hawley Przybycien scholarship will seek students who demonstrate leadership potential, financial need, and a commitment to advancing LGBTQ+ and/or feminist causes.

The Fred Ohm Dream Builder Scholarship

Founded by longtime Stonewall supporter and former Board member, Steve Houck, this new program honors the legacy of his late partner Fred Ohm. The Dream Builder Scholarship will award four LGBTQ+ students a one-time $5,000 scholarship. This annual scholarship opportunity prioritizes students pursuing higher education in New York State who identify as immigrants and/or have lived experience in the foster care system, as well as those who demonstrate a financial need.

The Phil’s Fund Scholarship

Launched in partnership with Stonewall supporter Brian Feit, Phil’s Fund was created for LGBTQ+ students at community colleges in the Bronx, NYC who have demonstrated experience in volunteerism and/or leadership, and hold a deep commitment to serving their local community. Each year, three students will each receive a scholarship of $7,500, which will cover one semester of tuition at their educational institution.

We look forward to welcoming more students to our trailblazing community of Stonewall Scholars this year. Major gratitude to our generous funders for their partnership in making this possible!
