LGBTQ Health Awareness Week

March 28 marks the start of LGBTQ Health Awareness Week. This week-long observance aims to bring attention to the devastating cycles of discrimination and health disparities that impact our LGBTQ community. A widespread lack of cultural competency exists within our health care system that often keeps LGBTQ folks from seeking treatment or receiving adequate care. In NYC, we are fortunate to have several community organizations meeting the need for LGBTQ-specific care.

Today, we’re highlighting an incredible local organization bringing competent mental health services to Brooklyn’s LGBTQ community: Rainbow Heights Club. A longstanding Stonewall grantee, Rainbow Heights provides innovative psychological support and advocacy to the borough’s LGBTQ folks - at no cost to participants. With a focus on partnership and self-care, Rainbow Heights builds community among clients while fostering an atmosphere of hope and recovery.

Finding support and community in your own borough can be a game-changer, and Brooklyn’s Rainbow Heights Club is certainly changing the game.
