Last-minute grant ideas

Stonewall has a several discretionary grantmaking funds that we tap into to make year-end gifts to organizations doing critical work at the intersection of LGBTQ+ equality, racial justice, and economic equity. Before we close the books on 2022, perhaps you’d like to recommend some last-minute grants from your own fund as well! If you’re looking for new organizations to engage with, here are a few we know could certainly use your support this year:

InReach (formerly AsylumConnect) is a nonprofit tech platform that connects LGBTQ+ asylum seekers, immigrants, and people experiencing homelessness with lifesaving resources. InReach works to fill the critical resource information gap facing our diverse LGBTQ+ community, with asylum seekers at top of mind. The organization is founded on the belief that every LGBTQ+ person deserves the safety and freedom to live authentically, regardless of their documentation or immigration status.

African Peach Arts Coalition members at a recent community event at their space in Queens

African Peach Arts Coalition is an incredible new organization based in Queens that curates visual art and spoken word by Black queer artists. APA Coalition uplifts artists and their wide range of disciplines, from video and digital media, to musical performance and creative writing. With programming for youth and adults, APA Coalition breaks through barriers and discrimination to elevate Black queer art and provides artists with an affirming platform to showcase their creative endeavors.

Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (STOP) is an enterprising organization working to protect civil liberties, especially as they pertain to reproductive freedom and the rights of trans and gender-nonconforming individuals. Through advocacy and legal service provision, STOP litigates for privacy, working to abolish systems of mass surveillance. STOP’s work highlights the discriminatory impact of surveillance on Muslim Americans, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, indigenous peoples, and communities of color.

These three incredible groups are just a fraction of the numerous new community organizations that have landed on our radar this year. Many of our new grantee partners this year were recommended to us by Fund Partners, and for this we are deeply grateful. If there are any organizations that you believe Stonewall should be connecting with, please reach out and tell us about them!

You can advise a grant from your fund to these three organizations - or any others - by visiting the Fund Partner portal here.
