The 411 on year-end giving

As the new year fast approaches, here are some key dates and housekeeping notes to keep in mind for your year-end giving:

Making a gift to your fund, or to Stonewall’s general operating:

If you wish to make a gift to your own fund in order to advise your year-end grants, please try to do so before December 29. This will help ensure adequate processing time for your grant recommendations. Note that gifts of stock or cryptocurrency typically take 3 business days to reach Stonewall’s accounts.

Stonewall will credit stock and ACH transfers on the day the transfer occurs. Gifts made by check will be credited to the date listed on the check, provided we receive it at our office by January 10, 2023. Gifts made via cryptocurrency will be credited on the date the transaction settles, generally 3 business days after your gift. Please plan accordingly to ensure you get credit in the proper tax year.

Advising a gift from your fund:

This is just a reminder that when you recommend a grant to a new organization, it generally takes us a couple weeks to ensure due diligence, vet the organization, process payments, and get them in the hands of the groups you want to support. To ensure a gift’s timely arrival, please make sure you put your recommendations in the system as soon as you can, particularly if you have not advised a grant to this organization from your fund in the past.

Stonewall works hard to move your grant recommendations through our system as efficiently as possible, especially at year-end, and adhering to these deadlines helps avoid delays. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your year-end giving plans. Thank you for your understanding, and happy New Year!
