Kicking off a summer of SQS
Calling all NYC-area emerging LGBTQ+ leaders! At Stonewall, we’re always envisioning the beautiful, liberated future our community deserves. And one of the most effective ways we’ve found to move toward that future is to build community among next generation leaders and equip them with the tools and knowledge they need to win progress for our community. That’s where Stonewall Quarter Share comes into play.
One of Stonewall’s longest-running programs, Stonewall Quarter Share (SQS) was founded in 2007 and has since raised well over $1.25 million in support of Stonewall and dozens of critical service providers. The group functions as a giving circle, and is led by a volunteer Leadership Council who produce monthly social, educational, and volunteer events for more than 150 members. These monthly events provide members with space to build community while learning about the issues impacting LGBTQ+ people. Each year, the SQS experience culminates in a member-driven grantmaking process, which offers deep insight into NYC’s diverse LGBTQ+ nonprofit landscape and emphasizes the transformational power of philanthropy.
If you’re in the NYC area, join us on Saturday, May 31 for QUEER HISTORY ON THE RUN: A Scavenger Hunt through the West Village. Registration is free, but space is limited. You can RSVP here!
We’ll also be hosting our annual Pride Brunch on Saturday, June 28. More details to come on that, so stay tuned. Want to keep up with SQS? Follow us on Instagram, and join our email list.
But wait, what does it mean to be an SQS member? Here’s how it works:
Each member makes a suggested monthly gift of $25 (or more or less!)
75% of member contributions support Stonewall’s programs
25% is awarded to nonprofits selected by members
Stonewall Quarter Share offers its members a diverse slate of programming each month. From museum visits and walking tours to volunteer opportunities, panel discussions, and casual social meetups, we aim to offer a range of events that speak to every facet of the queer experience.
If you’re interested in building community with likeminded queer, trans, and ally folks throughout NYC, we encourage you to consider joining SQS. Learn more about the program here, or reach out to sqs@stonewallfoundation.org with any questions. We hope to see you at an upcoming SQS event!
