Spreading the Holigay Spirit!

Miracle on 22nd Street - 2.jpg

Ten years ago, letters to Santa from families in need started mysteriously arriving at the Chelsea address of gay couple, Jim and Dylan. At their holiday party that year, friends suggested they start taking the letters and fulfilling the requests. They took up the charge, and the organization now known as Miracle on 22nd Street was born. Since that first year, more than 2,000 families have been matched with “elves;” donors who buy and send holiday gifts to those in need.

In early 2019, Jim connected with Stonewall’s staff in an effort to begin targeted outreach to LGBTQ families in need. We were able to connect Miracle on 22nd Street to a willing grantee organization, and collaborations are now in process to fulfil the needs of numerous LGBTQ+ families in New York this year. They’re even throwing a holiday party for these families! Stonewall will also be reaching out to our network of grantee partners when the lines are open for gift requests, and we have designated funding from the Dad Fund to meet the needs of LGBTQ youth who may not find an elf this year. We’re thrilled to partner with Miracle in these ways, connecting folks in our community with the resources they need to have healthy, happy, enriched lives.

As Jim Glaub, Miracle’s Executive Director, so kindly put it:

“Homelessness and poverty hit the LGBTQ+ community at a vastly disproportionate rate, and this has been an important part of our organization's mission. We connect families and elves of all backgrounds and identities, and feel that the holidays are an important opportunity for us remember the spirit of generosity and humanity this time of year. We wanted to partner with Stonewall because they are a lot like Santa: Always giving, always jolly, and always supporting those in need!”

Make a gift today to support Stonewall’s work investing in projects large and small.
